Sonja Makitan, O.D.

Dr. Makitan graduated from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies. She received her Doctor of Optometry degree from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry in Elkins Park, PA, graduating Magna Cum Laude. She was a member of the Beta Sigma Kappa and Gold Key International Honors Societies. 

Dr. Makitan completed her clinical training in ocular disease, neuro-ophthalmic disease, and specialty contact lenses through her rotations at the Charlotte VA Medical Center, Hillcrest Vision in Winston-Salem, The Eye Institute in Philadelphia, South Jersey Eye Associates, and the Skyline Vision Clinic in Colorado Springs, where she also trained alongside surgeons specializing in cornea and glaucoma.

Passionate about preserving vision and providing comprehensive care, Dr. Makitan stays at the forefront of the latest advancements in eye care. She approaches each visit with respect and empathy, ensuring every patient receives the personalized attention they deserve. She has a special interest in ocular disease management, dry eye, and specialty scleral contact lenses.

She is a member of the American Optometric Association and the North Carolina State Optometric Society. Outside of optometry, Dr. Makitan enjoys traveling and spending time with her fiance, friends, and family.
